Vismay Sanghavi

Vismay Anand Sanghavi is an West Indian Canadian artist, currently living, working and creating from the city of Toronto, Ontario. He represents the Ontario College of Art and Design University as a student majoring in the Drawing and Painting program.

Vismay’s artistic vision is most effectively executed with an emphasis on scale, a vital attribute in his practice that he strives to amplify throughout his artistic career. While his spontaneity in mark making is evident in his intentionally suggestive artwork, his attention to detail allows him to leave trails of hints to his personal narrative.

While Vismay has completed large murals for various clients and acquired a number of commercial commissions of different custom artwork, Vismay's creative path, unique style and conceptual thinking circulate around a constant search and study of his traditional background and birthplace. Being born in Mumbai, brought up in Oman and the United Arab Emirates, and later immigrating to Canada, he has “been grateful and terrified to experience all the most extreme seasons of the world, sometimes all in one day!”. But more than the seasons around the world, he is fascinated by the consistency of his cultural background, spread thin across the world, but deep rooted and powerful. This search is a mission to not only raise self awareness as an overseas citizen of India, but also to explore issues in its present and past politics, social systems and history and to later, be a voice for his people in and outside India through his work.
